Universal Design for Learning
While planning instruction for my "reluctant writers," as well as my project based learning unit, I gave careful consideration to Universal Design for Learning. I knew that in order for my students to feel and be successful, I would have to provide multiple means and opportunities for them to engage in the writing process. Various digital tools helped students find multiple means of representing, acting, expressing, and engaging with content and writing.

"UDL provides a blueprint for creating instructional goals, methods, materials, and assessments that work for everyone--not a single, one-size-fits-all solution but rather flexible approaches that can be customized and adjusted for individual needs." The goal of UDL is not for students to merely learn the content, but to engage with the learning process in a way that enables them to become lifelong learners.
There are three primary principals that guide Universal Design for Learning and that I carefully considered while creating lessons and learning opportunities for student writers. These are:
