Common Core State Standards There were many types of standards that drove the work of this experiment. One set of standards that was looked at and followed were the California State Standards. Particularly those in second grade. The California common Core standards cover multiple subject areas. With the focus of this study being student talk, a lot of the work was driven the state standards for speaking and listening. THe state standards around speaking and listening are so valuable and informed the components that went into my evaluation of student discourse.
The California State Standards for Speaking and Listening are designed to cultivate effective communication skills among students. These standards emphasize the importance of clear and coherent oral expression, active listening, and collaborative discussions. Students are encouraged to develop strong speaking abilities by articulating thoughts and ideas confidently, using appropriate language conventions, and adapting their communication style for different audiences and purposes. Through the California State Standards for Speaking and Listening, students are equipped with the necessary skills to effectively communicate, collaborate, and participate in meaningful conversations, both inside and outside the classroom. |
