About the Author

My name is Teresa Barron and I am a Dual-Immersion intervention teacher at Edwin Markham Elementary School. I have been working in the Vacaville Unified School District for 14 years. All of my years of work have been as a Dual Immersion classroom teacher at Markham, with the last six of those being a part-time intervention teacher. I have been able to teach K-6 and have learned much from each grade level. I believe that in order to be a great teacher, one must embrace the idea of being a life-long learner.
I chose to work in the Dual-immersion program because I enjoy being able to use my native language as a tool for teaching and learning. Growing up, I was an English Language Learner and I feel that my background and experiences allow me to better assist students whom, like myself, are learning a second language during their early academic years. I take pride in being a role model for students and knowing that I can instill in them the belief that they can become anything they choose to be. If they are persistent and open to learning new things, the sky is the limit!
I am also a wife and mommy of two wonderful boys, whom I love immeasurably! They are my constant motivation and I strive to instill in them the importance of education, as well as, the importance of being a life-long learner. This is one of the reasons why I decided to further my education and pursue a Master’s degree. I want to not only be a role model for my classroom students, but also for my own boys! I want them to have the desire to accomplish great things utilizing the knowledge they acquire throughout their educational careers.

Reflections on my Journey |
Lasting Learning from the Innovative Learning program |
As I sit here reflecting on the past few months in the Innovative Master's Program, I can vividly remember when my colleague, Stephanie, mentioned attending an informational meeting for a Master's program, through Touro University. I could not have possibly imagined, back then, the roller coaster ride I was stepping into. Yet, I am glad I did! I have learned and grown immensely as an educator. Throughout the program, I have been introduced to a variety of technological tools and with the focus of TPACK, I have been able to utilize this technology to address each of my students’ unique academic needs. I have been more vigilant of actively incorporating pedagogy with content knowledge and pairing it with the appropriate technology, in order to set up my students for success when it comes to academic excellence. This has also helped me to cultivate 21st Century skills in my students. These skills are essential for their success in the ever-changing future.
