ResearchAccording to the United States Department of Education, during the school year 2015-2016, Oklahoma had a six percent retention rate and retained over 9,000 K-2 students—Civil Rights Data Collection. More than 7 million students, representing 16% of the population, were chronically absent and missed 15 or more days in a single school year. In 2018-2019 the elementary school in this study, PK-4 students, scored a D for academic achievement.
In 2018-2019 the elementary school in this study, PK-4 students, scored a D for academic achievement. They earned 3 of the 35 possible points for preparing students for the next grade, course, or level. The elementary school was at the eighth percentile, while the state of Oklahoma was at the 39 percentile nationally. Those students earned 11.7 out of 30 in academic growth, a C for student growth compared to their previous year’s performance at the 39 percentile for change. The state was at the 59 percentile for growth. The percentage of students in good attendance was graded as a D, earning only 2.99 out of 10. This elementary school was at 83.43 percentile for attendance, Oklahoma City Public Schools were at 78.93 percentile, and the State of Oklahoma was at 85.97 percentile for chronic absenteeism.
